What do you use to record your design ideas?

I'm sure you've heard about the Fashionary, that fashion sketchbook everyone has been raving about. Well, I too, succumbed to the hype, and I even forked out a few extra dollars for the special red version. Lol.

Carolyn from Handmade by Carolyn is probably to blame for this, as her lovely sketches have been populating my Blog reader for months and probably also populating my subconscious.

Anywhoo, it got me thinking about what you guys use to record your design ideas. Previous to this, I was sketching on my iPhone using Adobe Ideas. It wasn't bad at all.
Of course, some people are doing a much better job at filling the pages of their Fashionary, but I'm slowly becoming more comfortable with it. Something about getting over Art School trauma.

Tell me! What do you use to record your design ideas?

  2. Yes, I can see how this would be a good idea - I don't record anything at the moment because it takes a lot of time, and I don't have time enough for sewing as it is :)

  3. Ha, I just got the red Fashionary too! I am really liking it, it is so much easier having the figures drawn already. I also got their little mini notebooks to keep in my purse, so if I have an idea while out and about I can sketch it out real quick.

    1. The red version is totally better, no doubt about it. ;-)

I didn't know about their mini notebooks. That's also a good idea!

  4. Nice sketches Adrienne! I just use a drawing book. I have all kinds of photos glued in, sketches, magazine snips, fabric swatches and even articles. I love to go back and refer to it.

  5. I remember reading about it on Caroline's blog but I thought it was a regular sketchbook. That's quite a good idea. Yours drawings are very nice.
I just have normal sketchbooks (3 or 4 of them, not so good to keep track of everything) where I draw and sometimes pin fabric (I should learn fom you as it's very useful).

  6. I just made myself a travel book with elastic bands so I can take pages in and out and record ideas for clothes, recipes, to-do lists, etc., then organize them later. It seems like a step backwards in some ways since I have a smartphone too, but for some reason I really like making sketches on paper.

  7. I asked for and received a fashionary last Christmas, and though I don't use it often, I do use it. (only one double page spread so far but still...). Sketch books have never been my thing (too intimidating) so those little faint outlines are fantastic—they give me a starting point.
